“An Open Window” by Pakitsilp Varamissara is a blissful reflection of the Chiang Mai region; powerfully colored landscapes melt into the softest abstractions echoing at times traditional Thai paintings, discipline in which the artist was trained. Solitary stroller, oscillating between tradition and modernity, the artistic approach of Pakitsilp Varamissara subtly borrows the heritage of the Lanna School bringing it to a timeless level. He freely infringes Thai traditional painting codes, bringing them smoothly to fresh, modern and unique compositions. After several residency programs in France, initiated by the Toot Yung gallery in 2009, Pakitsilp Varamissara, inspired by the European masters (Matisse, Dufy, Bonnard, Picasso), radicalizes his technique. He adopts a formal simplicity bordering on abstraction and a brilliant refinement of color contrasts, which has become his trademark.
